Why Does MYO Magic Need Authentication?

When you first use MYO Magic, you'll see this authentication prompt:

MYO Magic Authentication Banner

What happens when you authenticate?

When you click "Authenticate," Yoto's official login page will open in a new window:

Yoto Login Page

The extension needs two permissions:

  • Access your Yoto account — This lets MYO Magic fetch your playlists and cards so you can manage them directly from the extension
  • Offline access — This keeps you logged in between sessions, so you don't have to authenticate every time you use the extension

🔒 Your security is important

MYO Magic never sees your password. The authentication happens through Yoto's official login system, and the extension only receives a secure token that allows it to work with your account. Think of it like getting a visitor's badge — it only grants access to your playlist content, nothing else.

This is the standard, secure way that browser extensions connect to online services — similar to when you use "Sign in with Google" on other websites, except this connects directly to your Yoto account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Chrome extension?

Think of it like an app for your web browser! A Chrome extension is a small program that adds extra features to Chrome. MYO Magic lives in your browser toolbar and works directly with the Yoto website to give you superpowers when creating MYO cards.

Will MYO Magic work with Safari, Firefox, or other browsers?

Currently, MYO Magic is designed specifically for Google Chrome. We recommend using Chrome for the best experience with Yoto's website. Don't have Chrome? It's free to download at google.com/chrome.

Can I use MYO Magic alongside other Chrome extensions?

Absolutely! MYO Magic plays nicely with other extensions, including MYO Studio. If you have multiple extensions that activate on the Yoto website, you will see the buttons appear for each of them since they operate independently of one another.

Why did my upload fail or seem to get stuck?

Here are the most common fixes:

  • Check your internet connection is stable
  • Make sure your files are in MP3 or M4A format (not WAV or other formats)
  • Keep individual files under 40 MB due to Chrome extension limitations
  • Don't move or rename files during the upload process — keep them in the same location until complete
  • Try uploading smaller batches if you have many files
  • Refresh the Yoto page and try again
  • For large uploads, give it time — the magic is happening behind the scenes!

Is MYO Magic safe to use?

Yes! MYO Magic only works on the Yoto website and doesn't collect or store any of your personal information. It simply helps automate the card creation process you'd normally do manually.

Do I need to keep Chrome open while uploading?

Yes, Chrome needs to stay open during the upload process. For bulk imports, you can minimize the window and do other things on your computer — just don't close Chrome completely.

Can I use MYO Magic on my phone or tablet?

Chrome extensions aren't available on mobile devices, so you'll need to use a computer for the full MYO Magic experience.

How do I update MYO Magic?

Chrome automatically updates extensions in the background. You'll always have the latest features without doing anything! If you want to check manually, right-click the MYO Magic icon and select "Manage Extension."
